By definition you can't hack your own device.

God I am glad we got our nice TV from WAYYYY before this latest push for advancment of the tech.... but now I am wondering about the exercise bike with dedicated tablet my wife just got. Time to brush off those old skills and get back into hacking...
This shit needs _extreme_ sweeping and draconian regulation _now_ before it the worst effects of it happen, and those regulations need to happen around the world... That really only leaves one option and that's not happening because every population on earth isn't going to _force_ their governments to behave.
Looks like the worst case scenario _is_ going to happen. Stock up on stuff folks, this is about to be a wild ride.

If you can prove in good faith you are looking for security breaches and/or breaches of privacy you are legally protected. Legal eagle did a whole video about This today using LG as a proxy example.

found out today. not true. DMCA allows users to hack their own devices for security research

No, that’s what u/0_foxtrot is saying: it’s not “hacking” if it’s your own device.

Does openAI have an illegal deal to share data with Samsung without telling anyone? I mean they've already stolen the sum of human knowledge without paying for it so it's not like they don't do that
Reply Share
No but they have pretty important relationships with Samsung for hardware purposes and user adoption via tablets and phones, and they know where their bread is buttered.

I might be missing something due to fatigue or general stupidity on my part, but if this person used ChatGPT to help “hack” their TV I imagine OpenAI does not want to be seen encouraging hacking via their tools.

One time a guy recommended me a restaurant that was in a city 5 hours away, I go to search it and it autocompleted the full name of the restaurant as soon as I typed in the first letter. I had never heard of or searched for this place before

Dude! This kind of thing happened to me years ago. About 8 years ago- I met up with a friend and we were just reminiscing. I started talking about how I missed the game system that we would wave our arms around thing. I literally looked up “what was the” and it autocompleted with the name of the system. It was the eye toy

The most insidious part is the connecting to other microphones to use them...

It's a good thing the tv doesn't come with bs voice controls as an excuse to give you a remote control with a built-in microphone. Sure would be even worse if that remote control had a solar charger and no removable battery so you can never turn it off.

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. Frank Herbert, Dune
Even in the best case scenario for AI being amazing and making you more productive etc, it won't be cheap or even available to you forever.

maybe so, but I've lived without it for a long long time. I'm confident I can get through the rest of my life without it, if necessary

Targeted advertising. You'll throw lots of money at both of them.

If I were them, I would also include cat sounds. Cat people spend too much money on their cats sometimes lol

Not trying to defend Samsung. But almost all TVs have listening capabilities that spy agencies can access.
Same as your laptops. They can view your camera and access your mics.
This is not a conspiracy theory.
Explained by this former CIA guy here: https://youtu.be/BXtDH2IXKY8?si=J4-EYLR5yOk6sAm7
But yea, I agree I think RE shouldn't be a banning offense.

That won't stop them. Gamers Nexus found evidence they will auto connect to open Wi-Fi nearby to send telemetry home.
