We investigated Apple's supply chain to analyze the cause of display cracking in the iPhone Duo. We believe the issue stems from Metal Injection Molding (MIM) hinge reinforcements.
Under physical stress or tight structural tolerances, these components can shed tiny metal fragments that puncture the OLED panel. South Korean manufacturer Fine M-Tec denied responsibility, shifting the blame to other suppliers, including Amphenol, Shin Zu Shing, and several Chinese suppliers.
